What’s On Main Street
The central shopping district, referred to as “The Magic Mile”, is separated from the West Main Street shopping district by Marktplatz. “The Magic Mile” begins just east of the Admiral Nimitz Museum and continues west to Marktplatz. Along the way, in outstanding historical buildings, you will enjoy top quality shopping. Wide sidewalks and courtyards line the streets making this a lovely walk. Marktplatz, in the 100 block of Main Street, could easily be called the heart and soul of Fredericksburg, Texas. Many of Fredericksburg’s famous festivals and events are held here. It is the perfect place to relax and unwind. There are pavilions, picnic tables and public restrooms. You can take a leisurely stroll through the exquisite native gardens, studded with heirloom roses. For the kids, there’s a playscape, a storytelling Maibaum, a waterwheel and extensive, well manicured lawns for running and playing. The Maibaum was created by metal artist Roy Bellows, and shows the history of Fredericksburg all along its patina branches. Other historical sculptures can also be found on the grounds. The Vereins Kirche Museum stands at the center of the Marktplatz, It was the first public building in town. It has served as the town hall, a school, a fort, and a church.
